Tiger Woods bulldozed his way to a hopeful second straight success and a sixth Hero World Challenge success with a 66 on day two of the event in the Bahamas.

Woods, who turns 44 at the end of the month, posted an 11th hole eagle along with four birdies to a share of fifth and six adrift of fellow Masters-winning Patrick Reed (66).

Woods is teeing-up for a first occasion since capturing last month’s inaugural ZoZo Championship in Japan.

And the 15-time Major continues to add merit to his decision to be a ‘playing’ captain going into next week’s Presidents Cup showdown at Royal Melbourne in Australia.

Woods said:  “It was a lot less windy and a little bit easier today so scoring conditions were a little bit better.

“I didn’t hit the ball as well as I would like starting out, missed a few greens.”

And Woods was full of praise for Reed who was one of Woods’ Presidents Cup ‘wildcard’ picks despite the Texan’s controversial remarks re Woods at last year’s Ryder Cup in Versailles.

Reed has posted a 66s with a spanking new set of irons in the bag,

Woods said:  “Yeah, brand new set of irons and new putter this week. He’s been monkeying around with different putters, trying to get a little softer feel, so he finally found one.

“He’s still always going to travel with his baby, but just like me, I had different putters in play throughout the years, but this one always travelled.

“Some of the guys are experimenting with different equipment. This is normally the time you do it. They’ve had a little time off trying new stuff, trying to get a little bit better, work your way into next year.

“So, there’s nothing wrong with that. The guys are shaking some rust off, working on some things, and hopefully some of these guys can make their way up the board and get ready for next week as well.”

Defending champ and European No. 1 Jon Rahm bounced back from an opening 70 to also take Route 66 and move to a share of third at eight-under.
