Ferguson Goes On Q-School Birdie Blitz Shooting 64 In Spain

Scot Ewen Ferguson went on birdie blitz in posting an equal-best score of 64 on day four at the European Tour Q-School at Tarragona in Spain.

Ferguson, 23 didn’t drop a shot to muscle his way to a share of 17th at 10-under par and six shots adrift of Dane Benjamin Poke who heads the now 77-player reduced field heading to the final two rounds on the Lumine course.

And thanks to having his father for support, the Bearsden golfer is on target to be among the top-25 after the six rounds on Wednesday to gain full 2020 main Tour membership.

He said:  “I played well today. I played well on the first couple of days as well but it’s a long week and you just have to keep plugging away. I didn’t want a mistake to happen early on so I think I played a little bit too defensive in the first couple of rounds.

“I just seemed to attack at a lot more pins with the view let’s just go for it.

“My dad’s out watching me this week and it’s quite nice to have someone you’re close to just watching you and willing you to do well with the odd wee fist pump when you hole a putt.

“I’m pretty tired after a long season on the Challenge Tour with China and Mallorca in the last few weeks and I’ve felt quite a lot of pressure to try and get my card for quite a while now, so that’s why my dad’s come along to motivate me.

“The good thing is I’m feeling pretty good; there’s two more days to go and I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing and see what happens at the end of it.”

Frenchman and former Scottish Open winner, Gregory Havret (66) is well-placed sharing 11th and in a group one clear of Ferguson

Keeping their hopes alive or regaining his card is Glasgow’s Marc Warren who birdied his four opening fourth round holes in a 69 to be two behind Ferguson and sharing 30th place.

Euan Walker (70) is a further shot back of Warren and with Daniel Young (72) and Craig Howie (70) making it through right on the four-under par cut-off mark.
