Knox Birdies Honda Last Hole As Shamal Sours Syme’s Muscat Round.

Top-Scot Russell Knox superbly sent a 250-yard second shot down the last to 14-feet and duly two-putted for birdie to boost hopes he plays all four rounds of the Honda Classic in Florida.

Knox had bogeyed his closing two holes on day one in a round of one-under par 69 and then added in what was an overall disappointing second day two-over par 72 for a one-over par tally and right on the cut-off mark in the $US 6.8m event at PGA National.

Prior to his 36th hole birdie, Knox had birdied his third hole and then bogeyed his sixth to remain at two-over ahead of a horror double-bogey ‘6’ at the eighth.

Knox was then three-over for his round after a 15th hole bogey before his heroics at the last restored some shine to his day’s work.

“It’s always nice to finish with a birdie but it was pretty scrappy early on and then on sixth I over-cooked my second shot while on eight I was way right off the tee and had to chip back onto the fairway,”  said Knox.

“Thankfully my back nine was a lot better as I drove the ball well missing just the one fairway on 13.”

Korean Sungjae Im reeled off six birdies in 15 holes in a round of 64 to grab a share of the clubhouse lead on six-under par.

MEANTIME ……….

A sandstorm has seen Connor Syme’s play all rounds goal blown well out into the Gulf of Oman on day two of the Oman Open in Muscat

Syme, who was the very last into the event after ‘Beef’ Johnston was a late withdrawal, had been out early and starting his round at two-under par and just four off the lead but a pair of double bogey ‘6s’ just prior to the stoppage near noon local time has put paid to the young Scot’s quest.

When play was halted the ultra-talented Syme, who doubled his 13th and 14th holes, had slumped to six-over par through 15 holes and four-over par in tally.

In contrast, Scott Jamieson never managed to tee off and would have struggled to even see the course in the ‘Shamal’ ahead of starting his second round at 9am local time Saturday.

Jamieson was sharing second place after day one thanks to a 67.

Just 11 in the 141-player field had managed to complete their second rounds including Germany’s Max Kieffer in the clubhouse with a 70 and leading on five-under par.

Of the nine other Scots only David Drysdale (+1/13 holes & one-under in total) along with Robert MacIntyre (+1/16 holes & level par in total) and Liam Johnston (+2/16 holes & 5-over) had managed to commence their second rounds.
