Mickelson Confirms For Scottish Open But Skeptical Of Carnoustie Course Set-Up.

Phoenix, AZ  …

Five-time Major winning Phil Mickelson is the first big-name American in the New Year to confirm he will contest this year’s Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open at Gullane.

Mickelson has long been a great supporter of the Scottish event and finally broke through in 2013 to win the ‘Scottish Double’ in capturing the Scottish Open at Castle Stuart and then week later winning the 142nd Open by three shots at Muirfield.

Phil Mickelson confirms he will contest the 2018 Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open later this year at Gullane GC.

In fact, Mickelson made his Scottish Open debut in 2000 finishing T7th at Loch Lomond.

‘Yes, I’m looking forward to again playing the Scottish Open,” he said.

“Being back at Gullane and being right there near Muirfield will bring back a lot of good memories, but then I’m also delighted to play Gullane as I remember birding two of my last three holes on the final day which was great to take to St. Andrews for the following week’s Open.

“I always get a lot out of playing the week before, and I have always gotten a lot out of The Scottish Open going back to when I started playing at Loch Lomond well over a decade ago, and since it’s been on links golf, I get even more out of it.”

Mickelson will then be heading to the following week to Carnoustie and venue for this year’s 146th Open and hoping the R & A set-up the Angus course to his liking after missing the halfway cut both in the 1999 and 2007 Open Championship’s.

“I like Carnoustie and I think it’s a fun golf course and a fun golf course to play every time I have played it outside of The Open,” he said.

“They just seem to struggle getting the course set-up properly, so hopefully they will get it right this year and it will be a great 2018 Open Championship for me.”
