McIlroy Not Only Gives Up Olympic Gold But Drops To A Two-Year Low On World Rankings.

Rory McIlroy not only gave up the chance of an Olympic Gold medal but he’s now No. 5 on the World Rankings after Sweden’s Henrik Stenson moved to a career high of No. 4 on the back of finishing runner-up in Rio.

McIlroy’s world ranking is the lowest since finishing T14th in the 2014 Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open that saw him drop to No. 8 in the world.  However after capturing The Open a week later he went back to World No. 2 and then onto World No. 1 in winning the WGC – Bridgestone Invitational.

No hiding the fact but Rory McIlroy has fallen to his lowest World Ranking in more than two years – Now ranked No. 5 in the world

New Olympic champion Justin Rose moved him back from No. 10 to No. 9 and overtaking Masters winner Danny Willett.

Rio bronze medalist Matt Kuchar jumped five spots to No. 15.

Other notable moves in the rankings included Ryan Moore jumping nine spots to No. 50 following his win at the John Deere Classic, while Thomas Pieters rose three spots to No. 61 after finishing one spot off the podium in Brazil.

And spare a thought who has now been side-lined for 12 months after finishing T10th in the 2015 Wyndham Championship being staged this week again in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The 14-time Major winner, who holds the record for the longest-running World No. 1, has fallen a further 14 spots to World No. 672.
