Tiger Woods Out & Aussie Marcus Fraser Into 145th Open Championship.

Tiger Woods has advised officials that he will not contest next fortnight’s Open Championship at Royal Troon.

The 14-time Major winning Woods place has been taken by Aussie Marcus Fraser who was on the reserve list into golf’s oldest Major.

News that Wood will not tee up at Royal Troon comes as no surprise given the 40-year old Woods has not competed in almost 11 months since finishing 10th in the PGA Tour’s Wyndham Championship.

Tiger Woods lifts the Claret Jug for a first time and winning by a massive eight shots in 2000 at St. Andrews.

Also Woods has offered no timetable on a possible return to action after undergoing back surgery last September.

Woods is a three-time Open Championship winner having won in 2000 and 2005 on the Old Course at St. Andrews and also at Royal Liverpool in 2006 when he collapsed in tears after the final putt.

And when The Open was last held at Royal Troon Woods tied for ninth.

Fraser, who turns 38 on July 26th, has competed in five Open Championships since making his debut in 2005 at St. Andrews.  However there was a run of five years and from 2007 to 2011 the Corowa-born golfer failed to qualify.

But in recent years Fraser has made the cut finishing 54th in 2013 and 20th last year.
