Davis Love 111 Says Tiger Woods Running Out Of Time To Qualify For Hazeltine.

Ryder Cup Captain Davis Love 111 says Tiger Woods is fast running out of time if he’s to qualify for the USA Team.

It’s now 130 days till the Ryder Cup at Hazeltine but the golf world is no closer to knowing when Woods will return to competition.

In fact, Woods has not teed up since last August in finishing T10th on debut in the Wyndham Championship.

Love 111 will meet again with many of those likely to qualify for his team during the course of this week’s Jack Nicklaus hosted Memorial in Ohio.

However, the talking point still on everyone’s lips is when will Woods return.

Davis Love 111 admits Tiger Woods is running out of days to qualify for his Hazeltine team.

Davis Love 111 admits Tiger Woods is running out of days to qualify for his Hazeltine team.

“My first concern is that he just gets back to playing and I have been asking him and sending him text messages like ‘How you feeling, how you feeling?’,” said Love 111.

“Also much like everyone else I have been checking the PGA Tour entries website every Friday afternoon at five o’clock to see if he’s going to enter a tournament.

“Tiger says he’s making progress and feeling better but then there’s not that many tournaments left for him to qualify.

“So hopefully he comes out blazing when he does come out.

“But then he’s been so supportive from the very first day when he started this Ryder Cup campaign two years ago.   So he’s been very, very supportive of the whole process and of me.

“I will be relying on him as vice-captain if he doesn’t make the team as his role will be different to the role of Jim Furyk and Tom Lehman.

“If we want someone to speak to the players on different nights then we can say: ‘How about we get Tiger Woods?’

“So it’s just great to know, and we’ve known this since last September and October, that Tiger was going to be in the team room one way or another.”

And Love 111 has praised rival European Captain, Darren Clarke’s choice of vice-captains, and with Clarke last Friday announcing Padraig Harrington, Thomas Bjorn and Paul Lawrie as three of his eventual five vice-captains.

“Well, Darren and I had a great couple of days in New York a few weeks ago when we were undertaking a media tour and he talked to me about who he was going to pick,” said Love.

“Of course, he did not include me completely who he was going to pick but the three guys he’s chosen are great guys with Padraig Thomas and Paul having been close to Darren for a long, long time and also great Ryder Cuppers, and great European Tour players

“So he’s off to a good start and while he’s still to pick two, we know Thomas was going in there and we figured Padraig would be on the bubble of making the team or be an assistant captain, and probably much like Jim (Furyk) and Steve (Stricker).

“So the three he’s chosen are good guys and will be fun to be around.”
