Rory McIlroy Storms Three Shots Clear But Finds Himself Questioned Over Actions On 18th Tee At Trump Doral.

On a day when World No. 1 Jordan Spieth had sent rules officials into a spin, four-time Major winning Rory McIlroy found himself being questioned over his actions on the 18th tee on day three of the WGC – Cadillac Championship at Trump Doral.

McIlroy was seen on TV tightening something on his Nike ‘Vapor’ driver ahead of posting a round of 68 and come from two shots behind to three in front with a round to play in the $US 9.5m event.

He was approached in the scorer’s room by a rules official about his actions.

However there was no concern and clearly no breach of the Rules of Golf with McIlroy afterwards explaining: “Yeah, I took the driver out of the bag, and as I went, as I went to sort of — I just put it on the ground, and I guess as I went to lean on it to tee it up, I felt or it sounded as if there was like a little pebble underneath the club head or something.

“I looked and there wasn’t a pebble.

“Then I shook it, and the head, just the notch on the whatever, adjustable hosel had just come loose, so I could tighten it again.

“I just had to make sure that I could and Adam reassured me that it happened to him a couple of times and I could do that.

“But there was a rules official waiting for me in the scorer’s tent just to make sure that I had not changed it at all.”
