Austin, Texas – A Visit To The Lone Star State Capital Building.

Austin, Texas is the home for a second year to this week’s WGC – Dell Match-Play and being staged on the stunning Austin Country Club course laid out along the banks of the Colorado River.

Austin is the capital of Texas and according to Wikipedia is the 11th most populated city in the U.S., and the fourth-most populous city in the Lone Star State.

Austin gets it’s name from Stephen B. Austin, the ‘Father of Texas’ and the republic’s first secretary of state.

The roots of Austin can be traced back to the 1830s when pioneers began to settle along the Colorado River and then in 1839, the site was chosen at the republic’s new capital, then located in Houston.

Austin is also home to Dell’s worldwide headquarters and the reason the $US 9.75m event in being played in Austin.

Austin is a big sports-loving city as it home to the famed Texas Longhorns, the University of Texas American football side that won the championship in the 2005/06 season.

Austin is the home also to the NBAs Austin Stars and the NBLs Texas Spurs.

As well, since 2012 and right through to 2021 the city is playing host to the USA Formula 1 Grand Prix.

And here’s a bit of useless trivia and that is the Texas Chainsaw Massacre along with Miss Congeniality and Doubting Thomas were filmed in the city.

We took a trip around the State Capital building that includes monuments commemorating the Heroes of the Alamo, and installed in 1891, along with a “Great Walk” of black and white diamond-patterned pavement shaded by trees.

The four oldest monuments are the Heroes of the Alamo, Volunteer Firemen, Confederate Soldiers and Terryt’s Texas Rangers, and these flank the tree-lined Great Walk.
