Jordan Spieth Hosting Texas-Theme Bar-B-Que At 2016 Augusta ‘Former Champions Dinner’.

In keeping with his Lone Star State up-bringing Masters champion Jordan Spieth intends hosting a ‘Texas Bar-b-que’ at next April’s Augusta National ‘Champions Dinner’.

The 22-year old Spieth gets to play dinner host after having stormed his way earlier this year to a maiden Major triumph by four strokes at the Georgia golfing gem.

And in a recent Masters tradition Spieth has chosen to host an outdoors bar-b-que as South African Charl Schwartzel did in 2012.

However it won’t be South African steaks and sausages but good ole Texas T-Bones and rump.

As Dallas is in the southern region of Texas next year’s array of former Masters winners can expect their meat to feature a thick, molasses-like sauce that keeps the meat very moist.

“I’ve still got a bit of time before I have to advise the officials at Augusta National but I am leaning towards a Texas-like bar-b-que,” he said.

“So it will be a choice of Texan meats as my main meal choice ”

Spieth will also be the first Texas-born Masters Champion to host a ‘Former Champions Dinner’ in 21-years since Austin-born Ben Crenshaw hosted his second Augusta meal in 1996.

The ‘Champions Dinner’ has been an annual tradition at The Masters since 1952 when Texas legend Ben Hogan suggested and host the first dinner.

However Spieth’s choice certainly should appease some of the older ‘Green Jacket Brigade’ who were far from impressed in 1998 when a similar 22-year old Tiger Woods presented a menu of cheese burgers and French fries in the first of four Masters dinners he’s hosted.

However in 2002 and again in 2003 a more mature Woods offered Porterhouse steak as his main menu.

In 1989, Scotland’s Sandy Lyle served-up probably the most gob-smacking dish ever to be served within the stately Augusta clubhouse and that was Haggis, mashed potatoes and mashed turnip.

But then Bubba Watson in 2013 felt so proud of his grilled chicken with sides of green beans, mashed potatoes, corn, macaroni and cheese, served with cornbread he presented the same menu again this year.
