Injured Rory McIlroy Hangs Onto To World No. 1 Crown.

Injured Rory McIlroy holds onto his World No. 1 crown after nearest rival Jordan Spieth missed out by a shot in Monday’s dramatic Open Championship play-off.

Speith had a chance to overtake McIlroy for the top spot in the world rankings, but needed to succeed at the Home of Golf to unseat McIlroy.

However a 71st hole not only saw the Texan miss out on capturing a third Major in succession but miss out on the play-off and the chance to go to World No. 1

But then the 21-year old Spieth only needs to wait a fortnight to the top of the rankings at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and following week’s PGA Championship, and whether or not McIlroy defends both tournaments.

New Open Champion Zack Johnson jumped 13 spots to the new World No. 12 after his play-off victory at St. Andrews.

Louis Oosthuizen and Marc Leishman, who lost in the three-man playoff, also made positive moves. Oosthuizen went from 17th to 13th; Leishman from 61st to 27th.

The top four in the world remained the same after the Open – McIlroy, Spieth, Bubba Watson and Dustin Johnson while Justin Rose edged from eighth to fifth after his T-6 finish in The Open.

Unfortunately, Tiger Woods continues his slide dropping from World No. 241 to World No. 258 after rounds of 76 and 76 in the 144th Open.
