Webb Simpson Offers $100 For An Olympic Club ‘Burger Dog’.

Webb Simpson is in San Francisco for the first time since his victory in the 2012 U.S. Open at Olympic Club and he’s returned to the club of Major Championship triumph.

The American traveled to the Olympic club, where he  won by a shot, on the eve of this week’s WGC – Cadillac Match-Play Championship.

However his first stop was not the practice range but the snack shop located near the driving range, to see if he could get one of the club’s famed burger dogs.

Unfortunately the shop was closed, but there was a woman still working inside.

Simpson offered $50 for a burger. She recognized him as the U.S. Open champion and jokingly asked, “Did you win the U.S. Open or something?” When Simpson opened his wallet to pay, he realized he only had $48 or $100. He wasn’t going to short-change her, so he offered her $100. She didn’t accept the payment, though.

While he was waiting for his burger, Simpson spotted a cart with a wedge and two golf balls.

“You couldn’t have written it better,” he said. The discovery inspired him to re-create his chip shot at 18 that clinched his U.S. Open victory.

“I chunked the first one, but we erased the video, so the one that we have was good,” Simpson said. “But it was amazing being back.”

Simpson’s love affair with San Francisco continued Wednesday, as he beat Ian Poulter, 3 and 2, in the first round.

“Tee-to-green, it’s really similar to Olympic,” Simpson said. “The greens (at TPC Harding Park) are newer, so they’re firm. And this wind and dry air is going to dry them out. It’s going to play really tough the rest of the week.”

Kind of like that tournament Simpson won near here in 2012.
