Jordan Spieth Now Looking For Revenge After 2014 Masters Near Miss.

Jordan Spieth is after revenge with a round to play after letting slip victory in last year’s 2014 Masters.

Twelve months ago, Spieth went into the last day of his first Masters with a two shot lead but struggled to finish tied second with Sweden’s Jonas Blixt behind new double Augusta winning Bubba Watson.

While a 17th hole double bogey showed the Texan is not totally without fear, a birdie by 2013 US Open champion Justin Rose at the 18th hole closed the gap to four strokes.

Spieth ended at 16-under par while Rose, who will be looking to become the first England born golfer since Nick Faldo in 1996 to win at Augusta National, posted his second round of 67 in three days to be just behind at 12-under par.

“He’s playing incredible golf but it’ll be great to keep an eye on him,” said Rose, whose final birdie knocked Phil Mickelson out of the final group.

It’s the second consecutive year Spieth will have played in the final group on Sunday at the Masters. He was the co-leader last year with Bubba Watson and ended up finishing second.

“Last year definitely left a bad taste in my mouth,” Spieth said. “I’ve been looking to get back, looking at trying to get some revenge on the year. I’ve got a long way to go still.”

Spieth finished with a 2-under 70 to give him a 54-hole total of 16-under 200, the lowest 54-hole total in Masters history.

Rose is at 12 under after his 67. Mickelson also shot 67 to finish at 11 under.

Charley Hoffman, who played in the final group with Spieth on Saturday, shot a 1-under 71 and is at 10 under.

Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods each shot 68 and are tied for fifth at 6 under, along with Dustin Johnson, Kevin Streelman and Kevin Na.

McIlroy and Woods will be paired together in the final round.

Spieth was at 18 under and leading by seven shots when he birdied the par-3 16th.

But he found trouble on the par-4 17th, three-putting for the second time in his round to drop two strokes.

Rose followed minutes later with a birdie at the 18th to jump ahead of Mickelson on the leaderboard.

A poor approach at the 18th left Spieth in a bad spot, but he hit a tremendous chip shot to give himself a makeable par putt.

“It was huge,” Spieth said of his final par.
