McDowell’s Ankle Gets Green Lights All The Way To Augusta.

Graeme McDowell has been given the green light all-clear to take his place in next fortnight’s Masters field.

McDowell was forced to withdraw after just nine holes of this week’s Valero Texas Open after straining tendons in his lower left ankle while practicing ahead of Wednesday’s Pro-Am on the TPC San Antonio course.

In fact, McDowell was in so much pain a doctor was called onto the course on Wednesday and on the 10th tee injected a pain-killer into the ankle of the former US Open winner.

McDowell was then considering adding next week’s Shell Houston Open to his schedule but on doctor’s advice declined to spend time resting his ankle at his home in Lake Nona, Florida.

McDowell later tweeted a photo of his lower leg in a compression bag.

The Northern Irishman was diagnosed with peroneal tendon strain and with rest and continuing treatment should be fit to take his place in what will be an eighth Augusta National appearance but on a venue where he has missed the cut on five occasions and with a best finish of T12th in 2012.
