All-Male Royal Troon Golf Club Finally Sees The Light Of The 21st Century.

Royal Troon Golf Club looks to have finally seen the light and should soon join the remainder of those in the 21st Century with the announcement the all-male Scottish club will shortly undertake a comprehensive review to consider the most appropriate membership policy for the future. The recommendations from this review will be presented to the membership for their consideration.

This move follows a decision late late year by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club at St. Andrews to allow women members.

It was also announced that Royal Troon will share the responsibility of hosting The Open in 2016 with The Ladies’ Golf Club, Troon. Members of Royal Troon Golf Club and The Ladies’ Golf Club, Troon have formed a joint Championship Committee and will co-host The Open on the Old Course which is shared by both clubs.

It will be the first time in the 155-year history of The Open that two clubs will share the responsibility of hosting the Championship.

Royal Troon Captain, Bob Martin said: “Royal Troon Golf Club has hosted The Open on eight occasions since 1923 and in 2016 we will share this responsibility with The Ladies’ Golf Club, Troon as joint hosts of the 145th Open Championship.

The clubs enjoy a close working relationship and we look forward to hosting a The Ladies’ Golf Club, Troon Captain, Sara-Ann Bottomley said: “Both clubs take immense pride in the Old Course at Troon and we are delighted to share the honour of hosting The Open and the joint responsibility for delivering the event.”

If Royal Troon male members agree it will leave just Royal St. Georges and Muirfield as the only two all-male clubs remaining on the Open Championship rota.
