Kel Nagle – Happy 94th Birthday – Greg Norman Leads Birthday Wishes For Golf’s Oldest-Living Major Champion.

Fellow Open Champion Greg Norman has led the chorus of ‘Happy Birthday’ for golf’s oldest-living Major Champion – Kel Nagle.

Kel turned 94 years of age today (December 21st) and celebrated the occasion with his son and a handful of very close friends.

“I know I speak for everyone involved in this great game of golf in wishing Kel a very happy birthday,” said Norman.

“And all us continue to wish Kel good health and happiness at this special time of the year.”

Nagle won the 1960 Centenary Open Championship on the Old Course at St. Andrews by denying Arnold Palmer the famed Claret Jug but with Palmer then winning the next two years, and with Nagle runner-up to the champion American in 1962 at Royal Troon.

Nagle’s name is synonymous with Australian golf having won 61 Australasian Tour victories and 30 more victories than Norman.

The Sydney-born Nagle is famous also for his teaming with his life-long friend Peter Thomson, and himself a five-time Open Champion, in capturing the 1954 and 1959 Canada Cup (Now known as the World Cup).

Thomson was among those phoning their birthday congratulations to Nagle.
