Mikko Ilonen – With His Volvo World Match-Play Victory.

MIKKO ILONEN – WITH HIS VICTORY IN THE VOLVO WORLD MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP

· It is Ilonen’s fifth European Tour International Schedule victory in his 310th European Tour event.

· He moves to €1,483,208 in The Race to Dubai.

· He also moves into the top 40 in the Official World Golf Ranking from 52nd.

· It is his second victory of the 2014 European Tour season, following the Irish Open.

· Becomes the fourth multiple winner of the 2014 season. They are: Rory McIlroy (BMW PGA Championship. The 143rd Open Championship, WGC – Bridgestone Invitational and US PGA Championship), Miguel Angel Jiménez (Hong Kong Open (Dec 13) and Open de Espaňa), Alexander Levy (Volvo China Open and Portugal Masters) and Mikko Ilonen (Irish Open and Volvo World Match Play Championship).

· Victory came on his debut in the Volvo World Match Play Championship.

· Former first time winners of the Volvo World Match Play Championship include Arnold Palmer (1964), Tom Weiskopf (1972), Hale Irwin (1974), Isao Aoki (1978), Bill Rogers (1979), Greg Norman (1980), Ernie Els (1994), Paul Casey (2006), Ross Fisher (2009), Ian Poulter (2011) and Mikko Ilonen (2014).

· Becomes the first Finn to win the Volvo World Match Play Championship and only third Continental European to win the title, following Seve Ballesteros (1981, 82, 84, 85 and 91) and Nicolas Colsaerts in 2012.

OTHER FACTS

· Ilonen becomes the 28th different winner in the history of the Volvo World Match Play Championship.

· Finland is now the 13th different country to win the Volvo World Match Play Championship.

· It is his first professional victory in England. (He did win the 2000 British Amateur Championship at Royal Liverpool).

· The fifth Finnish victory in European Tour history.

· Gains his largest European Tour prize of €650,000. (Only €375,000 will count for Race to Dubai purposes).

· Gains his fifth professional win.
