Rory McIlroy Plays Long Island Golfing Gems – Shinnecock Hills & Sebonack.

Rory McIlroy has been spending two days on Long Island since watching Andy Murray struggle on Monday to get through his opening US Open match.

On Tuesday he shared lunch with former US President Bill Clinton at a swanky Sag Harbor restaurant.

Then in the afternoon (TUES) the four-time Major champion was out playing a social match on the famed Shinnecock Hills and venue for four US Open’s in three different centuries and again to hos the Major in 2018.

McIlroy then spent yesterday (TUES) playing the ultra-private Sebonack course that will play host next year to the US Women’s Open.

McIlroy was then taking the short two-and-a-half drive north to Norton and just south of Boston, Massachusetts and the venue for Friday’s starting Deutsche Bank Championship.

The World No. 1 has been grouped for the opening two rounds of the $8m event with Ryder Cup rival Jimmy Walker and likely ‘wildcard’ pick Hunter Mahan.

Mahan’s victory last week in New Jersey has seen him go to the top of the points standing and 34 clear of McIlroy in the race to capture the FedEx Cup.

Though if Mahan were to win again this week officials will be extra careful in looking after the precious trophy after the American accidentally broke in half last week’s Barclays Championship trophy.

* Rory later tweeted the following comment after playing Sebonack:-

Had a great couple of days playing in the Hamptons. View on the 11th at Sebonack this morning
