Australia’s Adam Scott and Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy are 12/1 favorites to win next fortnight’s Open Championship at Royal Liverpool.
Recent U.S. Open champion Martin Kaymer plus reigning PGA Tour and European Tour No. 1 Henrik Stenson have opened 15/1 in odds released by the Las Vegas based GolfOdds.com.
Tiger Woods, and who will be competing in only his second event since back surgery, had opened at 20/1.
“I am still not expecting much from Tiger here, although he does command betting support at 20/1 or higher,” says GolfOdds.com Founder Jeff Sherman.
“The PGA Tour golfers will now get involved in some European tournaments leading up to the British, so that’s where attention will be turned for looking for golfers coming in playing well. Stenson looks like he’s regained his form from the end of last year and is a serious threat. I will again believe that Sergio Garcia is worth supporting in matchups but not in the odds to win market.”
The odds of Phil Mickelson becoming the first player to win back-to-back Open Championships since Padraig Harrington in 2007 and 2008 is 20/1.
