The Great White Shark’s New Appetite – U.S. Open TV Commentator.

It generally happens at some time in the career of a great golfer.

And after so many years being the subject in front of the microphone, champion Australian golfer Greg Norman will now be a voice behind the microphone when he co-hosts the 2015 U.S. Open for Fox TV when the U.S. network takes over coverage of the season’s traditional second Major Championship in 13 months time.

Norman will join legendary NFL and NBA broadcaster, Joe Buck in co-anchoring the event from behind the 18th green at the host Chambers Bay course in Washington State according to Sports Business Daily.

But while Buck has never ever commentated on golf, the double British Open winning Norman, who for so long generated golf’s headlines, should find no trouble adapting to the role.

Norman now follows the likes of fellow Major Champions Johnnie Miller, Andy North, Nick Faldo and compatriot Australians Ian Baker-Finch and Wayne Grady into the commentary booth.

And Norman should be no stranger in calling a US Open given he competed in 19 U.S. Open championships between 1979 and 2002.

He was runner-up twice first in 1984 when Fuzzy Zoeller waved a white towel in mock surrender on the final fairway at Winged Foot during regulation play before savaging the golfer known as the Great White Shark by eight shots in Monday’s 18-hole play-off.

In 1995 at Shinnecock Hills, Corey Pavin came from three shots from behind Norman, who had been tied for the 54-hole lead, to defeat the Australian.

The USGA, as organisers of the US Open, last year awarded TV rights to Fox as part of a 12-year deal and thereby dumping NBC, which had televised the Major since 1995.

NBC will wind up it’s U.S. Open commitment at the conclusion of next month’s championship at Pinehurst No. 2 and being held from June 12th to 15th.
