Russell Knox Breaks Through $US1m Earnings Barrier With Hilton Head Top-10.

Russell Knox has become the richest-earning Scottish golfer this year breaking through the $US 1m barrier in earnings with his top-10 finish in the RBC Heritage Classic at Hilton Head.

Knox recorded a final round 70 for a five under par tally in warm but continuing windy conditions on the Harbor Town Golf Links course.

The Inverness-born Knox recorded three birdies and dropped just one shots in his first appearance on the South Carolina course dubbed among the top-six toughest on the PGA Tour schedule.

Russell Knox has now earned more this 2014 than his 2012 and 2013 PGA Tour seasons combined.

Russell Knox has now earned more this 2014 than his 2012 and 2013 PGA Tour seasons combined.

Knox arrived at Hilton Head having earned $US 980,121 this season (£583,746) and with his likely prize cheque of $US 156,600 (£107,205) taking the newly-married 26-year old inside the $US 1m bracket to $US1,136,721 in earnings for the first time in his career.

And the new season is only a few months old!

In contrast, Stephen Gallacher who competes on the European Tour has earned Euro 655,168 from the eight events he has contested this year including a successful defence of his Dubai Desert Classic title.

However when converted to US dollars that equates to $US 905,246.

Knox’s earnings already this year is some $US 300,000 (£107,165) more than Knox earned in his 2012 and 2013 PGA Tour years combined.

“It was a little goal of mine to get past the one million dollar mark and I could have done that with a putt in San Antonio,” he said.

“But then winning the Honda Classic would have also taken care of that, and I guess it’s just a reflection of how well I have been playing this year.

“And to finish top-10 here in my first appearance is great, and in a very tough and a very long week, so I am pleased but then I wished I could have putted a bit better.”

American Matt Kuchar made it four times lucky denying England’s Luke Donald to win by a stroke with an 11-under par total.

Kurchar, who had led on the back nine in his last three events including the Masters, set up victory in holing an 18-yard bunker shot in a round of 64.

For Donald, who led by two strokes heading into day four, it was his third second place finish in the event in posting a last day 70 for a 10-under par total.

The win is Kuchar’s sixth PGA Tour success and helps boost his hopes of qualifying automatically for the US Ryder Cup team.
