Just a few days after taking out a 6-iron to record a hole-in-one in a social game with his father at Lake Nona, and Sweden’s Peter Hanson used the same club to hole out from 184-yards for an eagle during the first round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
Hanson’s ace at the par three 17th was his ninth in his professional career and while admitting ‘it also cost me a fortune’ he stands to reap a bigger reward this week in starting with an eight under par 64 in the $US 6.8m event in Louisiana.
“It was funny because back home in Orlando last week after Augusta, I made a hole-in-one with the same 6-iron playing with my father and a couple of friends at Lake Nona,” he said.
“So that 6-iron has holed out in two days but then the hole-in-one cost me a fortune in drinks.
“But as for the eagle I aimed right of the flag as it was tucked over a bit of a mound and it just rode with the wind a little bit and came down straight at the pin.
“It pitched like about four inches from the hole, and I guess it dropped given the crowd reaction”.
Hanson’s round of 64 was his lowest score ever on the PGA Tour.
