Storm Closes Augusta National Gates & Refund For Patrons – First Time Since 2003.

The 2014 fist official day of practice has been disrupted with Masters patrons informed to leave the golf course around 10am this morning ahead of severe weather set to hit the Augusta region.

Weather forecasters have been predicting a 100% chance of rain and with the poor weather to continue for the first few days of the year’s first Major.

American Gary Woodland was first out on the golf course this morning at 8am and followed by 2012 Masters Champion Bubba Watson 10 minutes behind.

Play suspended 10am day oneThen at 12 noon local time Augusta National, and just two hours after the gates had opened, put out a statement saying:  “Due to inclement weather conditions and safety concerns, it was necessary that we close the gates for Monday’s (April 7) Practice Round at 10:00 A.M.  The current forecast is that this weather front will not permit the reopening of the grounds.

“Purchasers of Monday Practice Round tickets will be sent refunds in May, and will be guaranteed the opportunity to purchase 2015 Practice Rounds tickets.  Further information will be included with the refund.

“We are disappointed that our patrons could not enjoy today’s practice round, however safety must be our first concern.  We look forward to seeing these Patrons next year,” said Billy Payne, Chairman of Augusta National Golf Club and the Masters Tournament.”

The last time gates did not open due to bad weather during a scheduled day was Monday, April 7, 2003.
