Australia’s Peter Senior admitted he didn’t sleep at all ahead of hitting the opening tee shot in the 142nd Open Champioship at Muirfield.
The 53-year old Australian, with his son Mitch on the bag, did get to bed around 3am but was unable to get any form of sleep ahead of teeing up in his 14th Open Championship.
Official Starter, Ivor Robson was on the tee, and in his 39th straight Open appearance, to greet Senior along with Scotland’s Llody Saltman and England’s Ollie Fisher.
Then at precisely 6.32am Robson announced: “May I welcome you to Muirfield for the first day’s play of the 142nd Open Championship. This is game number one. On the tee from Australia… Peter Senior.”
The lack of shut eye didnt’ seem to affect the reigning Emirates Australian Open champion who found the fairway with his driver.
However Senior played a poor second shot before walking off with a double bogey ‘6’.
The very popular Australian soon bounced back in managing a birdie at the second with his long-time coach, Gary Edwin watching on and very pleased.
