McIlroy & McDowell Head Five Medinah Miracle Workers Crashing Out Of BMW PGA

World No. 2 Rory McIlroy’s indifferent season continued to be also among five members of last year’s victorious European Ryder Cup team to miss the cut in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

With the US Open less than a month away, McIlroy could only manage to hit four fairways in shooting a three over par 75 for a five over par total.

McIlroy’s second round in the European Tour flagship event was a roller-coaster front nine of four birdies but also five bogeys.

He then steadied to par the next seven holes but doubled seven ahead of a two-putt birdie at the last.

“It was just a tough day and I didn’t get off to the best start to be two-over through three,” he said.

“I did manage a couple of birdies to get back to level but it was a grind.

“It was tough to really make any ground out there this afternoon and with the cut looking like two over par.

“I was missing a lot of greens and couldn’t really give myself many chances to make any shots back and obviously try to get into the weekend.”

Also missing the expected two-over par cut is fellow US Open winner, Graeme McDowell (75 & five over par), Scotland’s Paul Lawrie (72 & three over par), double defending BMW PGA champion Luke Donald (72 & six over par) and fellow Englishman Ian Poulter (76 & eight over par.)

Sweden’s Peter Hanson had attended Tuesday night gala Players Award dinner but was never going to play due to a back injury.
Italy’s Francesco Molinari, and a member of the 2012 European winning team, heads the event by one shot after carding a second round 68 for a six under par tally.
