Woods Offers Point Blank Advice To Ryder Cup Rookies

Tiger Woods heads to Medinah and his seventh straight Ryder Cup appearance offering point blank advice to the rookies competing in the Windy City.

The USA Team boasts four rookies in Keegan Bradley, Jason Duffner, Brandt Snedeker and reigning U.S. Open winner, Webb Simpson.

In contrast, the European Team has one rookie in Belguim’s Nicolas Colsaerts.

And the 14-time Major winning Woods advise to those five rookies is simple.

“Just go out there and win your point, period,” said Woods.

“The golf doesn’t change, just because the atmosphere is slightly different, it’s still the same.  Put the ball on the fairway, put the ball on the green, hole every putt, and get your point.”

And Woods spoke of the origin of his relationship with European Team captain, Jose Maria Olazabal and stemming from when the American played alongside the late, great Seve Ballesteros.

“I got to play with Seve at Augusta, and for me that’s when my friendship with Ollie started,” said Woods.

“He was so nice, same with Seve.  They were great, showing me how to hit shots around the greens.

“Back then Augusta was very different around the greens.  You had to hit shots, and they were running through all the repertoire of shots.  And it was cool, because Seve does it differently than Ollie does, and Ollie is more of the feels that I have.

“And over the years I’ve picked his brain so many times about shots around the greens and how he played it and why the bounce does this and that and the body positioning and the hands and all these different things.

“We’ve had just a great friendship. I think being paired with him and also the champions dinner and I sat next to him, it’s just been a great friendship.”

Woods will tee up at Medinah with an impressive Singles record but an indifferent Foursomes and Fourballs Ryder Cup record.

Singles – Played 6, Won 4, Lost 1, Halved 1

Foursomes – Played 12, Won 4, Lost 7, Halved 1

Fourballs – Played 11, Won 5, Lost 6, Halved 0.
