Galway Giant To Make His European Tour Debut In Madeira.

Galway giant Dara Ford will make his European Tour debut at this week’s Madeira Islands Open.

The 32-year old Ford is Head Professional at this week’s host Santo da Serra course located high in the Madeira mountains overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

Ford undertook his PGA apprenticeship at Rosses Point and with organisers affording the six-foot 32-year old an invitation into the event.

“I’m the tallest man in Maderia,” he joked.

“But seriously I am looking forward to teeing up in a European Tour and count myself very lucky.

“I’m not expecting fireworks or miracles, so I’m just going out there to enjoy myself, and if I could make the cut that would be fantastic.”

Ford warmed up for the European Tour event by playing nine holes on the new Academy Course at Santo de Serra.

And the Irishman is assured of plenty of local Portuguese support.

“It’s been four years since the Madeira Islands Open was last at Santo de Serra and everyone is excited this week,” said Ford.

“There was a  great turnout for the Pro-Am and we assured of plenty of local club support for the four days.”
