Having been present at more than 100 tournaments both in Europe and the States in recent years, I have been fortunate to study various putting techiques.
I’ve spoken with putting specialists, I know many of the players and their caddies and one thing is clearly noticeable is there is as many different putting grips as there is players in a given tournament.
Last week in Morocco, I witnessed Northern Ireland’s Michael Hoey win the 39th Hassan II Trophy using the ‘Index finger putting grip’.
I spoke with Michael soon after his victory about his grip and he remarked: “Placing my index finger down the shaft of the putter has helped my alignment and I’ve been doing that since last year and it’s been really good for my putting.”
Hoey must know what he’s talking about as he’s won three Race to Dubai tournaments in the past 1o months.
There was other players competing last week who I also observed using this ‘Index finger putting technique’ including Welshman Phillip Price who was in contention.
The research I undertook recently shows that the Indez Finger putting grip works better than most other putting grips.
And to back up this statement, I would like to share with you the following informatin of adopting the Index finger putting grip.
* Using this grip keeps the putter square and aligned
* Your putts will be straight and any breaks in the green can be fixed by the speed of the ball.
* Keep your eyes on top the ball during the swing and until the ball is holed.
* Focus your power on the Index finger and your body contracted with arms straight.
