Rory McIlroy has collected another award in the wake of his stunning U.S. Open success.

McIlroy’s latest award was the honour of Irish Sports Personality of the Year at the RTE Sports Awards on Sunday night in Dublin.

The award comes after McIlroy was named late last week as BBC TV Northern Ireland Sports Personality of the Year.

McIlroy missed both award cermonies as he has remained in Dubai to recover from a general run down in his health.

But there was a video hookup with the Congressional champion.

However McIlroy will be in Manchester later this week for the naming of the BBC TV Sports Personalty of the Year award.

Luke Donald should be very much in contention for the award but most observers believe top British cyclist, Mark Cavendish will scoop the pool.
