European Tour Squashes £6,000 Fine Imposed On Young Czech Star.

Young Czech golf star Filip Mzurek can breathe a huge sigh of relief after the European Tour agreed to drop of £6,000 fine imposed on him for slow play during this year’s Czech Open.

Mzurek had been fined £2,000 for a ‘Bad time’ during round one and then £4,000 and a stroke penalty for a similar offence in round two.

Filip Mzurek can breathe a sigh of relief after Tour squashes heavy fine on rookie Czech golfer.

He appealed against the severity of the fine and the European Tour has reviewed the matter in his favour.

However while the European Tour took into consideration Mzurek’s restricted earning capacity, he has been seriously advised to speed-up his play.

Czech Open Tournament Director, Miguel Vidador confirmed the penalty had been squashed.

“Filip appealed to the Players Committee who discussed his appeal letter and based on the fact that he is a young professional in his first year out as a pro, and based on his earnings in the Czech Republic that the fine was excessive,” said Vidador.

“So the fine was disproportionate to his earning capacity.

“However he did receive a pretty strong letter from David Garland, who is Director Tour Operations, explaining why the fine has been waived but that there will be no leniency in the future.

“So he has been advised to improve his pace-of-play.

“I feel it was the right decision to make and it’s fair.

“But he is a slow player and he got picked out but then while the fine has been squashed the one-stroke penalty he incurred on day two of the Czech Open stands.”
