Sandy Lyle now seems destined never to win the one event missing from a glittering golfing CV – The Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open.
After first contesting Scotland’s premier event in 1986 finishing T7th at Haggs Castle, Lyle has been one of the tournament’s biggest supporters with a combined 27 appearances.
Lyle’s best result was a four-stroke runner-up to Ian Woosnam in 199o at Gleneagles.

Ponte Vedre, FL …
Paul Casey, with three birdies and one less bogey, was pleased to sign for a one-under 71, and on a golf course that has not been overly kind to the very affable Englishman.
Casey, 39 is celebrating his 10th showing at TPC Sawgrass but only on three occasions has he played all four rounds.
“It was a decent start and a 71 is okay even though I didn’t play all that great”, he said.
“I think if you looked at my stats they would be awful as I didn’t hit a lot of greens ...

Ponte Vedre, FL …
Double Major winning Jordan Spieth was so fuming he bizarrely snapped a mobile pic of a badly raked bunker on day one of the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass in Florida.
The American dug deep into his bag and pulling out his phone on the first very first hole and after finding a greenside bunker on route to a double bogey ‘6’ and then an eventual one over par 73.
Tour rules state that a player cannot be seen to be using his phone in case of seeking ‘outside ...
