No sooner had the last putt dropped and the fingers of blame were pointing straight at Jim Furyk and his ‘France Four’. The four – Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Tony Finau and Bryson DeChambeau – were Furyk’s four ‘wildcard’ picks. All but Finau proved to be a huge let down to the Americans in their goal not only to win back-to-back Ryder Cup’s but in the process end a 25-year European ‘soil’ domination of the biennial contest. The so-called strongest ‘Stars and Stripes’ side ...

It comes as no surprise Rory McIlroy should tip fellow Irishman Padraig Harrington to lead Europe as Captain into the defence of the 2020 Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits. We know local Wisconsin-born Steve Stricker will be appointed the USA Team captain and while Thomas Bjorn cannot be ruled out of retaining the role for Europe, Harrington would seem the next-best suited to replace the Dane. “I’ve always thought Pádraig would be a good captain in the United States,” said McIlroy to Sky Sports. “He’s ...

“It doesn’t mean diddly squat,” was Rory McIlroy’s answer to the American-based The Golf Channel when asked his reaction to losing to Justin Thomas in the opening match of the of the Ryder Cup Sunday Singles encounters at Le National in Versailles. Thomas had won the first with a birdie but was quickly 2 down after McIlroy birdies at two, three and four before a birdie at eight and a birdie also at 10 had the 2017 PGA Champion back to all-square with his Irish rival. McIlroy ...

The Open Champion created European Ryder Cup history becoming the first player to win five of five matches thanks to his stunning 4 & 2 demolition of Phil Mickeslon. The US had won three of the top five singles matches on Sunday to close the gap on Europe to just one point, but ...

Tiger Woods paid one of his European opening match rival, Tommy Fleetwood a huge compliment on the eve of the much-anticipated showdown at Le Golf National in Versailles. While it is team format, it will be the fifth occasion this year and also the second in eight days Woods and Fleetwood will be out together. Woods ...

Rory McIlroy is hoping a friendship that began eight years ago in Egypt will see he and Dane Thorbjorn Olesen gel successfully in their opening Ryder Cup ‘Fourball’ showing. Ryder Cup captain, Thomas Bjorn surprised many in selecting McIlroy and Olesen, who is making his European Team debut, as the second pairing of the first day at Golf le National. McIlroy and Olsen will tackle the USA duo of World No. 1 Dustin Johnson and Rickie Fowler at teeing-off at 7.25am Irish time. “Looking at ...

If course knowledge counts for anything Europe is 4up over their USA rivals well before tee-off at this week’s Ryder Cup at Le National in Versailles. European’s Tommy Fleetwood and Alex Noren are the back-to-back French Open champions while it came as no surprise when Captain Thomas Bjorn chose Graeme McDowell as one of his vice-captain’s. McDowell brilliantly won the French Open in 2013 and 2014. Fleetwood had been one off the lead heading to the final round of the 2017 French Open but ...
