Scotland’s top-ranked Robert MacIntyre was returning to his rented apartment and back to bed following a 4.45am wake-up call and then walking off his final green some nine hours later with a disappointing three-over par 75 on the opening day of the PGA Championship. The effort, and in only MacIntyre’s second PGA Championship, saw him finish in a then clubhouse share of 68th place MacIntyre was one-under after brilliant holing 18-foot birdie at the 13th , and the fourth hole of his round, ...

Martin Laird is eager to make a better impression in returning to Kiawah Island where nine-years ago he recorded a best finish in the PGA Championship. Laird, 38, finished just inside the top-50 in the 2012 championship but since then he has contested just three of the eight ensuing PGA Championships. Though the good news for the Denver-based Scot is he’s coming off a best result on the four majors with his T38th effort at Augusta National. He said: “It’s always nice to play in a major but ...

Bryson DeChambeau could not have put it any clearer in declaring he’s ready to ‘unleash the beast’ at this week’s 103rd staging of the PGA Championship at Kiawah Island. Champ was in a star-spangled USA side that also included this week’s defending champion, Collin Morikawa along with his now fellow ...

Stricker’s ...

I love the mash potatoes guys!” Rory McIlroy had spoken of the ‘swagger’ that the golf world has missed in capturing the recent Wells Fargo Championship and how even a small attendance of spectators helped lift his spirits. It’s only in recent weeks on the PGA Tour the crowd noise, or ‘swagger’ that McIlroy calls it, has started to return to golf’s biggest stage The comparison was there for all to see at last week’s BetFred British Masters when played over ‘dreich’ conditions, ...

It was the final question in Rory McIlroy’s press conference ahead of this week’s 103rd hosting of the PGA Championship at Kiawah Island. It seemed a serious question:  “You talked a bit earlier about the 2012 PGA Championship win, but I’m curious from your perspective when you look back at that victory, how big was that moment for you, winning your second major at that moment in your career?” But before the reporter had finished her question, McIlroy was laughing his ...
