A remarkably sombre and very humble Rory McIlroy took full advantage of a ‘gettable’ host course birdied his closing two holes to be just one off the lead, with a round to play in the shortened 54-hole flagship BMW PGA Championship.
McIlroy, winner of the in 2014, is also now one round shy of capturing back-to-back titles on both sides of ‘The Pond, after recently landing a record-setting third FedEx Cup crown.

BMW PGA Championship Suspended Due To Queen’s Passing
The future of the 2022 BMW PGA Championship is now seriously in doubt following news of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth 11.
Play in round one of the $18m championship was immediately halted around 6.30pm local time and with some 30 players still to complete their opening round on the host West Course at Wentworth.
The DP World Tour is yet to issue a full statement but did use their social media accounts to reveal the intention to cease play and also to suspend play on Friday.

David Law emerged from the intermittent downpours all smiles to head the tartan charge with a 67 on the opening day of the BMW PGA Championship at Tour HQ.
Law, 31, superbly picked-up from where he left off a year ago when the Aberdonian shot a Wentworth career-best closing round of 66 to share 14th place. The effort was easily his best in three appearances at Tour HQ.
