Former USA Ryder Cup captain, Hal Sutton believes Tiger Woods is asked to do too much when it comes to helping deliver the Stars and Stripes team victory in the biannual event. The hapless Sutton led the USA side to its worst-ever Ryder Cup defeat in 2004 when thumped 18 1/2 points to 9 1/2 points by Europe’s Bernhard Langer side in 2004 at Oakland Hills in suburban Detroit. Sutton was criticised heavily by pairing Woods and Phil Mickelson together but with the duo failing to gel by losing ...

Double Masters winning Bernhard Langer heads into the final round three clear of his rivals as he seeks a second Senior Open Championship at Royal Birkdale Golf Club. Langer posted a magestic third day 66 to head South Africa’s David Frost who shot a two under par 68 to remain in contention on six under par, while a further shot back with 18 holes to play is American Mark Wiebe, who had to make do with a level par 70 after another testing day at Birkdale. Sandy Lyle heads the home charge on three ...

Double Masters winning Bernhard Langer and Mark Wiebe head to the weekend sharing the lead in the (British) Senior Open Championship at Royal Birkdale. Langer, who led by one shot into the final round at Turnberry last year, is determined to redress that missed opportunity, and he recovered well from a double bogey six on the sixth hole when he had a double hit on a greenside chip. Having birdied the fifth hole prior to that unfortunate error, he picked up shots on the eighth, 13th, 15th and 17th ...
