The memories of last week’s Volvo World Match-Play Championship at Thracian Cliffs will remain with us for a long time.
As eventual champion, Graeme McDowell remarked at the prize presentation it was a bold move to take the prestigious event to the Black Sea shoreline.
But a big congratulations to Volvo, IMG, the European Tour and the Bulgarian Golf Federation in organising such a wonderful event.

Here is the last of our photographs taken on a two-day stopover in Sofia on route to this week’s Volvo World Match-Play Championship.
Sofia was a wonderful experience and a city full of stately buildings and some stunning churches.
Hopefully, the European Tour will one day head back to Bulgaria and if so, a return visit to the Bulgarian capital will be a must.

As you will have been reading, we spent two nights in Sofia on route to this week’s Volvo World Match-Play Championship.
Sofia was an absolute surprise package dotted with lovely old buildings and churches along with some wonderful examples of modern day architecture.

Soviet Army Monument, Sofia, Bulgaria – Reminder Of Communist Rule 1946 – 1989.
The 36-metre high Soviet Army Monument in the centre of Sofia is a stark reminder of the Communist control over Bulgaria from 1946 to 1989.
The monument was constructed in 1954 and features a Russian soldier flanked by a woman and a man from Bulgaria.
And while Bulgaria gained it’s independence nearly a quarter of a century ago, the Monument still commands a presence in one of the largest parks in Sofia.
