Bulgaria Visit – A Warm Welcome, Stunning Location, Super Event & Great Memories.

The memories of last week’s Volvo World Match-Play Championship at Thracian Cliffs will remain with us for a long time. As eventual champion, Graeme McDowell remarked at the prize presentation it was a bold move to take the prestigious event to the Black Sea shoreline. But a big congratulations to Volvo, IMG, the European Tour and the Bulgarian Golf Federation in organising such a wonderful event. The week began with a few days in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia and then a very warm welcome ...

Sofia, Bulgaria – Stately Buildings, Wonderful Cathedrals & Old World Charms.

Golf, By Tour Miss Walk Off With Volvo World Match-Play Pro-Am Prizes.

www.golfbytourmiss.com walked off with the prizes in this week’s Volvo World Match-Play Championship Pro-Am. Bernie, who is the other half of the www.golfbytourmiss.com, had earlier in the round recorded a net ‘hole-in-one’ with his birdie at the short par three, ...

I was extremely fortunate with thanks to tournament organisers in participating in yesterday’s (WED) Volvo World Match-Play Championship Pro-Am here at Thracian Cliffs in Bulgaria. It was my Pro-Am debut on the European Tour and I thoroughly enjoyed the day, the opportunity also to play one of the most spectacular and dramatic golf courses in the world and the pleasure of partnering  Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee – winner in 2002, 2004 and 2009 of the Asian Tour No. 1 title, and ...

Soviet Army Monument, Sofia, Bulgaria – Reminder Of Communist Rule 1946 – 1989.

The 36-metre high Soviet Army Monument in the centre of Sofia is a stark reminder of the Communist control over Bulgaria from 1946 to 1989. The monument was constructed in 1954 and features a Russian soldier flanked by a woman and a man from Bulgaria. And while Bulgaria gained it’s independence nearly a quarter of a century ago, the Monument still commands a presence in one of the largest parks in Sofia. There is two secondary sculptures as you will see from the photographs hereunder. Two years ...

The history of the city spans some 2,400 years with more than 95% of the inhabitants ethnic Bulgarians, and making this city of some 1.3m people not only the 15th largest in the Eurpean Union but the most ethnically homogenous city in ...
