‘The Flying Dutchman’ Visits Outer Hebrides.
As one ship sought to sail for the Scottish mainland another tied up at Lochmaddy in the Outer Hebrides.
The Flying Dutchman arrived the same day as we were planning to leave.
But while our ferry was struck down with mechanical troulbe there was no such concern for The Flying Dutchman that was making a two-day visit to the Outer Hebrides.
The former fishing boat was built in 1903 and was fully restored exactly a century later in 2003 and renamed The Flying Dutchman.
The Dutch tall ship has 10 ...
Barra & Vatersay Islands Visit – Ferries, Beach Runways, Castles & Memorials.
It was a second visit to the Outer Hebrides but a first to the islands of Barra and Vaterday lying to the south of the island of Eriksay.
To reach Barra Island by vehicle it meant catching a 45-minute ferry from Eriksay to the northern-east tip of Barra Island while Vatersay is joined to Barra by a causeway.
However the trip over to Barra was capped when an RAF fighter jet emerged from the east flying at incredible speed and right over the ferry. By the time you heard the roar of the engines ...
Stunning Palace Of Versailles Choreographed Fireworks Display .. Watch The Video.
It was purely by chance we were within the grounds of the Versailles Tennis Club enjoying a ‘sausage sizzle’ evening with the wonderful couple whose house we are renting this week.
No sooner had we finished our meal and, as if it had been planned, a spectacular fireworks display began to light up the sky from the Palace of Versailles.
The Palace is located no more than a decent driver shot from where we were seated and in making our way back to the house we were drawn, like so many others, ...

Well if the truth be known it was Werner Snitznel Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday and Weiss beers unashamedly on all five nights while in the Bavarian capital.

Champagne Moment For Bernie At Gullane Golf Club.
It was a long overdue champagne moment for your author on the occasion of the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open media outing earlier this week at Gullane Golf Club to the east of Edinburgh.
I was one of the last to arrive along with being among the last to tee off and then I was also close to being the last to walk from the Scottish Open championship course just after 6.30pm local time.
It had been one of the best days in living memory in Scotland with the sun shining brightly and hardly a ...
Leading Aussie Golf Journos Rocking At Wells Fargo.
Australia’s top two full-time golf journalists were caught last week ‘rocking’ the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow.
Andrew Both and your esteemed editor have covered golf on both sides of ‘The Pond’ for more than three decades with Andrew having worked the PGA Tour and myself concentrating on the European Tour.
In between we have bumped into each other more times than we can remember and with our latest get together last week in suburban Charlotte.
So way better ...
