Brandt Snedeker Involved In Emergency Azores Landing.
The plane carrying American Brandt Snedeker and his caddy to Spain, and this week’s Volvo World Match-Play Championship, had to make an emergency landing in The Azores when a passenger on his flight suffered a heart attack.
Snedeker was aboard a Iberia Airlines flight heading from Miami and bound for Madrid when the drama occurred some 39,000 feet over the Atlantic Ocean.

Event sponsor and organisers indicated that this will be the last year the Volvo World Match-Play Championship will be played in Spain and on the Finca Cortesin course just south of Estepona on Spain’s Costa del Sol.
Volvo’s Per Ericisson indicated at a news conference today the event, firsr won by legendary Arnold Palmer in 1964 and eight years before the formation of the European Tour, is headed for a new location in 2013.

Scotland’s Paul Lawrie will this week celebrate his 500th European Tour event at the Volvo World Match-Play Championship,
Keith Waters, Director of International Policy with the Tour, was on hand today to present the 1999 Open Champion a gleaming ice bucket in honour of Lawrie’s achievement.
Lawrie becomes the 22nd player in the history of the Tour to tee up in 500 events and he will do that when he tees up Thursday on the Finca Cortesin course just to the south of Esteopona in Spain.

Ricardo Santos created European Tour history in becoming the first Portuguese-born player to win on home soil by capturing the Madeira Islands Open.
Santos, 29 shot a final round 63 to come from four strokes behind and win by four, and also set a new championship four round low of 22-under par tally on the Santa da Serra course.
