In a huge blow the 2014 Ryder Cup organisers Tiger Woods has ruled himself out of contention for a Gleneagles ‘wildcard’ pick citing lingering back problems.
Woods confirmed the news in a statement and in many ways takes the pressure of USA Ryder Cup captain Tom Watson.
The seven-time Ryder Cup star, who underwent surgery in March to treat a pinched nerve in his back, asked Watson not to consider him for the team competition against Europe next month.

It is not commonly known but fellow American Rocco Mediate was Tiger Woods opponent when Woods six years ago captured a 14th and his last Major Championship.

World No. 1 Rory McIlroy joked he would be prepared to wait to next week if needed to lift the PGA Championship trophy.
