Ireland’s Peter Lawrie earned a highest prize cheque since the 2013 Irish Open and an event he singled out as the start of a downturn in his game. Double Open Champion Greg Norman has described Tiger Woods troubles over the past two weeks as ‘mind-blowing”. The 14-time Major winning Woods shot his worse score as a professional, a round of 82, to miss the cut in last week’s Phoenix Open and then this past week he withdrew after 12 holes of the Farmers  Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. Some of the greats of the game have paid tribute to another great in Billy Casper who passed away yesterday aged 83. The three-time Major winner had spent five weeks after Thanksgiving in the hospital battling pneumonia and while he had been able to return home, he was still undergoing rehabilitation four days a week. Golf has lost another of its legends in recent weeks with the death overnight of three-time Major winning Billy Casper. Casper, who also captured 51 PGA Tour titles, died in Utah after battling for some months through ill health. Casper’s death comes closely following the passing of Australian-born great Kel Nagle while Charlie Sifford also died recently. Anirban Lahiri’s early birdie blitz saw him snatch the Maybank Malaysian Open from Bernd Wiesberger in a dramatic finish at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club.
