Michael Hoey was pretty pleased with himself posting a first ever bogey-free of the New Year on day one of the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.
The Northern Irishman Hoey carded a four under par 68 in bright but windy conditions to be just three shots adrift of the leading duo of South African Louis Oosthuizen and Spain’s Pablo Larrazabal.
Hoey posted two birdies on each half and in a display in finding all but one green in regulation on the Doha Golf Club course.
It was first time in four years ...

McGinley is among four players in the field to have first competed in Doha in 1998 however the sky-scrapper Qatar capital skyline nowadays mirrors nothing like a virtual barren desert landscape that greeted McGinley, David Howell and Paul Lawrie 18 years ago.
The Doha Golf Club course was then well on the ...

Australia Day 2016 – Bernie Flying The Flag At Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, Doha, Qatar.
Happy Australia Day from the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.
I first began coming here to Doha in 1999 and a year after the inaugural event at the Doha Golf Club.
And it just so happens that Australia Day seems to have always fallen during the tournament.
Of course, January 26th is also India’s national day but for today I’ve bravely donned a pair of Aussie flag boxers for a few photographs to show my true colours.
A very special thanks to Sue and Nigel who have so kindly welcome Eoin ...

Rory McIlroy is in for a multiple winning season if his share of third place in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship is any guideline.
McIlroy’s now had four seconds and now a third place result in the past six years competing in the UASE capital.
However, he’s then progressed into each season to capture four Majors and 13 other Tour titles.
McIlroy eagled the last for a second occasion in three days in a round of 68 to be tied on 11-under par with Sweden’s Henrik Stenson.
But for a third occasion ...
