Those supporters of www.golfbytourmiss.com will be familiar with my yearly awards when like so many others we look back on the highs and low of the past season.
Well starting this year we’re going to change that by introducing a monthly award section.
So here’s Bernie’s Awards for January 2013

Singh Opts Out Of Controversy In Pulling The Plug On Competing In Phoenix
Former World No. 1 Vijay Singh has withdrawn from the Phoenix Open, a day after admitting he used a banned substance – Deer Antler Spray.
It’s a genuine blow for the event given Singh is a former two-time champion having won in 1995 and 2003 and also finished as high as a share of third place two years ago.
But then to obviously avoid any controversy Singh cited a back injury in pulling out Thursday before the first round when he was due to tee up alongside American Ryan Moore and ...
Deer Antler Spray It Sounds Like Something You Use To Wax Your Car Says Lee Westwood.
When Lee Westwood was asked what he thought of the ‘Deer Antler Spray’ controversy he seriously thought it was something you use in waxing your car.
On a day when all but some 40 players in the 142-player field were in red figures it was revelations that three-time Major winning Vijay Singh had been using the banned substance that coloured the first round of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic.
Fellow Masters champion Mark O’Meara said Singh should be banned while there was a bizarre twist in the ...
Mark O’Meara Calls On PGA Tour To Ban Vijay Singh Over Deer Antler Spray Controversy
Double Major winning Mark O’Meara has called for the PGA Tour to act and suspend fellow Masters champion, Vijay Singh after the Fijian admitted to taking a banned substance.
The 49-year old Singh issued a statement confessing to using deer antler spray, which is banned up both PGA and European Tour’s anti-doping policy.
And Singh certainly didn’t help his cause admitting he paid $9,000 for the spray last November and that he uses it every couple of hours.
“I’m looking forward to some ...
Jamieson Looking To Turnaround Form Slump
After his early season success, Scott Jamieson is confident of turning around a recent downturn in his game at this week’s Omega Dubai Desert Classic.
Jamieson was first, third and second in his three opening events of the new season yet despite missing the cut in his last two Middle East events still continues to lead the Race to Dubai.
However the Glaswegian tees up today (THUR) feeling more at ease on the Emirates Course in Dubai in contrast to disappointing displays when he was five over ...
Shane Lowry Looking Not To Draw Rory McIlroy In Match-Play Opener
Shane Lowry may be relaxed in qualifying for next month’s Accenture Match-Play Championship but he doesn’t like the idea of the possibility of facing good friend and World No. 1 Rory McIlroy in an opening round encounter.
Lowry’s currently ranked 62nd in world and with qualifying for the $US 8.75m event, featuring the world’s top-64 to close on Monday 11th February.
Those players inside the top-64 will then be officially seeded as of their World Ranking a week later and on the Monday prior ...
