Woods Targets ‘Double-Digit’ Under Par Farmers Finish

Torrey Pines, California ….

Tiger Woods has targeted a doube-digit under par finish to his 2019 Farmers Insurance Open campaign at Torrey Pines.

The seven-time event winner heads into the final day of his first event of the New Year sharing 48th place at five-under par thanks to rounds of 70, 70 and a day three 71.

Woods again drew the largest following on day three but failing to produce any real fireworks to be actually two-over par through 12 holes thanks to a bogey at his first hole or the 10th on the scorecard, a birdie at his ninth and then bogeys at his 10th and 12th holes.

The current World No. 13 birdied his 14th hole and then saved the best for last in holing an 11-footer for birdie at the par-3 eighth hole or his 17th and then producing a great up-and-down from a greenside bunker at his last, and where Woods put a huge amount of spin of his ball for his 85-foot shot from the bunker to brilliantly stop just less than six-feet from the hole for birdie.

“I finally drove it good and didn’t hit my irons very close and again had a bunch of close calls on putts that just didn’t go in. Then finally I made birdies at my last two,” he said.

“So heading to tomorrow if I can just get something positive. I think if I can get to double digits would be nice, just a nice way to end the week. I’ve got to play a little bit better than I have, and if I can drive it like I did today and hit my irons a little bit better and give myself plenty of looks, it’s frustrating because I’m hitting a lot of good putts and they’re just not going in.”

Woods will now play the last round in the company of fellow Americans Ben Silverman and Scott Stallings.
