McIlroy Says ‘It’s All About Enjoying The Journey Within Myself’.

Torrey Pines, California …..

Forget about the fact Rory McIlroy over the past twelve months he’s been out in the final match in a final round on eight occasions – seven on the PGA Tour and also during the 2018 Dubai Desert Classic – and was unable to bring home a victory.

McIlroy’s not one bit interested in such statistics.

For McIlroy, it’s all about the journey and striving to keep himself in such positions and also to grasp every opportunity as it presents itself.

It means raising his consciousness level beyond pride and emotion and also forgetting about any final group negatives.

“No”, McIlroy said when asked if the Sunday last group statistic was getting into his head.

“I’m committed to the journey of getting to a point where that’s not a conversation anymore. Just got to keep putting myself in those positions. I’m obviously playing good enough golf to get myself there. You’re going out in the final group and being behind, you’re not supposed to win from that position. Give it a shot and at least have a chance on the back nine. So just got to keep putting myself in those positions.

“I’ve got another great opportunity to do that this week. I feel like my game’s in good enough shape to do that. Yeah, as I said, I’m just on the journey of learning and hopefully getting to a point where I don’t have to answer that question.”

And McIlroy indicated he carries that ‘inner peace’ not only onto the golf course but in everything he does outside of golf.

“I’m very happy within myself and very content and in a good place,” he said.

“I think if you’re that way off the golf course, it enables you to be that way on the golf course.”

And McIlroy is not the least interested in any lingering negativity over his decision not to have rejoined the European Tour this season.

“Not disappointed or — you know, I’ve done the exact same thing for 11 years in a row. I started over there, I’ve done everything that I guess has been asked of me to be a member of that tour,”he said.

“I haven’t made that decision yet this year if that’s going — if I’m going to go that route or not again. I am happy with my decision. I’m happy to be over here and playing.

“Again, anything that makes my life and my performances better, I’m going to do that.”
