England’s Ross Fisher has gone from shooting a record setting 61 at the famed Old Course at St. Andrews, and where you will find the widest fairway in all of tournament golf, to winning a bizarre two-yard wide ‘Hit the Fairway’ contest on the outskirts of Dubai.
Filmed on location at the Al Qudra Cycle Track ahead of the Race to Dubai finale at the DP World Tour Championship at Jumeirah Golf Estates, the Tour twisted the arms of four players – Nicolas Colsaerts, Ross Fisher, Richie Ramsay and Søren Kjeldsen – to contest the event.
The four arrived to find a two-yard wide bitumen roadway with artifical grass laid out from 250-yards to 350-yards.
Each hit driver off artifical grass but having little success until Fisher could be heard remaking: “What time does it get dark?”
Shortly after there was delight when Fisher’s ball stayed on the ‘grass’ to be declared the winner.
However we were left in the dark as to the Englishman’s prize in this latest social media European Tour gimmick.
