David Law Rules The Way In Spanish MENA Tour Event.

Augusta, GA …. Scotland’s David Law, seeking his maiden victory on the MENA Golf Tour, rode on a flawless front nine to seize the lead going into the final round of the inaugural Sotogrande Masters at La Reserva Golf Club.

Law backed up his opening 74 with a tidy five-under 67 to reach three-under for the tournament, a good two-shot ahead of overnight joint leader Mathieu Decottignies-Lafon of France with Duncan Stewart of Scotland and Gavin Moynihan sharing the third on level-par.

Javier Gallegos, the winner of the MENA Golf Tour Qualifying School held earlier this year, led the home challenge on one-over-par after a second round 74, two clear of his fellow Spaniard Manuel Quiros, who returned a 71 after opening with Moroccan amateur Yassine Touhami spearheaded the MENA Division, reaching seven-over after second round 75, one better than of his fellow countryman Younes El Hassani and four clear of Faycal Serghini.

It was Law, the 24-year-old Aberdonian, who held centre-stage with solid golf, reeling off three birdies on the front nine without dropping a shot and making further gains on the 12th, 15th and 17th in his second round which included just

“I controlled the ball well and putted nicely. Overall, played very good golf. There was no wind on the front nine and that helped as I made the turn at three-under without dropping a shot,” said Law, a two-time runner-up on the MENA Golf Tour.

“The wind picked up on the back nine which made things difficult, but I managed to keep the ball in play and holed some good putts.

“I am quite pleased with my efforts and look forward to the final round.”

Elsewhere, England’s Zane Scotland, a 10-time winner on the tour, moved into a tie for seventh after carding a 70 while the 2015 MENA Golf Tour Order of Merit champion, Thriston Lawrence, carded an eagle on the par-5, 11th en route to his 70 that left him tied for ninth on three over.

England’s Miles Tunnicliff, a two-time winner on the European Tour, was placed joint 28th, one ahead of Lee Corfield, a four-time winner on the MENA Golf Tour.
