Rory McIlroy Smashes Tour’s Second-Longest Drive Of 436-Yards.

Double Major winner Rory McIlroy has smashed what is believed to be the European’s Tour second longest drive during his new Royal Aberdeen course record breaking seven under par 64 on day one of the Scottish Open.

The 25-year old McIlroy managed to find the green with his wind-assisted drive at the 436-yard par four 13th hole.

While the European Tour does not keep records of long drives www.golfbytourmiss.com was on hand at the Maderia Islands Open in 2012 to report on the what is believed to be the longest Tour drive of 445-yards set by India’s Shiv Kapur.

McIlroy said he had hit the green during the Pro-Am and was comfortable in going for the green again during today’s first round and was comfortable in again taking on the green during the opening round of the £3m event.

However there was some surprised looks from those on the green in the group ahead including England’s Ian Poulter.

“It just trickled on the green and I said to Ian it was a 3-wood but no, it was a driver,” smiled McIlroy.

“I was confident of finding the green because I knocked it on the green in the Pro-Am.”
