Steven Tiley Leads Local Final Qualifying With 64 At Musselburgh.

England’s Steven Tiley set the early mark at The Musselburgh posting a seven under par 64 and just one stroke shy of the course record this morning’s Open Championship Local Final Qualifier.

The 30-year old Canterbury golfer’s was the best score of the four courses in the opening round.

Tiley finished with three ‘3’s including birdies at his closing two holes as he seeks to contest a fourth Open Championship since making his debut in 2004.

In 2010 Tiley led the Open Championship at St. Andrews with a score of 66 on the Old Course before being overtaken by Rory McIlroy who set a new course record of a 63.

Tiley is in the best of form having finished second in his last event at the secondary Challenge Tour’s Scottish Hydro Challenge at Aviemore.

“It was a great start and has put me in a really good position,” said Tiley.

“I managed to play a practice round yesterday, so if I can just go out there again this afternoon and shoot something similar that should put in good stead for Muirfield.”

Tiley played alongside former Ryder Cup star, Jarmo Sandelin who has his 12-year old son, Elvis acting as caddy.

Sandelin carded a round 73.
