Justin Rose’s US Open Success Helps Boost Paul McGinley’s Gleneagles Team.

Paul McGinley’s drive to retain the Ryder Cup can only be enhanced with the almost certain addition of new US Open champion, Justin Rose in his European Team.

That’s the view victorious 2010 Ryder Cup captain, Colin Montgomerie.

“It’s not going to hurt Paul having another Major winner in his side, not at all,” said Monty.

“Nowadays, and unlike years gone by, you need a team with a few Major winners because you know they (USA Team) will (smiling).

“You have to fight fire with fire and I think it’s super for Paul and his hopes of keeping the Ryder Cup in Europe that he’s going to have another Major winner in his Gleneagles team.

“So having Justin as a major winner in the team along with the likes of Rory (McIlroy), (Graeme) McDowell and Martin Kaymer, and of course if they make the team which they should, can only be helpful to Paul.”

In fact, Rose is now the fifth Major winner to have competed in last year’s victorious Medinah side but it is only Martin Kaymer who is competing in today’s starting 25th anniversary BMW International Open in Munich.

McGinley was due to contest this week’s in Munich but a back injury forced his withdrawal.
