McIlroy’s Clean, Unstained Image To Be Stripped Bare

Rory McIlroy’s crisp new clean, unstained image will mean stripping most of his attire of sponsor logos.

That’s what could happen if new sponsors lining up to market McIlroy get their way.

The new U.S. Open champion was handed the stunning U.S. Open trophy in attire sporting numerous logos.

Among his many sponsors are Jumeirah, Footjoy, Titleist, Oakley and the new Loch Erne Resort that’s in receivership.

Mcllroy’s landslide eight stroke success has been hailed worldwide not only for the ease of his Congressional success but the manner of the 22-year old ways.

Golf’s still recovering from the Tiger Woods sex affair revelations but McIlroy and the similar age Jason Day of Australia, who was runner-up for a second Major running, is helping get golf back to an unstained level.

Of course, McIlroy’s various sponsors are thrilled he’s won a first Major and so quickly after his Masters meltdown.

ISM has been smart enough to write into his all his contracts incentive bonuses and winning a first Major will mean millions for McIlroy and the Manchester-based management outfit.

But if ISM gets its way, McIlroy many sponsors logos will disappear in favour of just one or two.

“We’ll probably have to wait a year to see what a difference it will make financially but winning the U.S. Open will be a big difference,” said ISM’s ‘Chubby’ Chandler.

“He’s got paid for the potential he has, and they’ve not come cheap.

“Jumierah were big from the start and he’s got bonuses written into four contracts, something like that, so there’s not an awful lot will happen straight away.

“We’ve actually battered back a few things recently anyway just to take stock of where we are.

“As things fall away there’s two clothing companies who want to take off all the logos and pay more for Rory to wear their attire.

“It’s not Nike, so don’t go down that line.

“But one is Oakley and another one has said they’d like to clean the logos up but that has to take place over a period of time.

“At present, the Audemars Piguet doesn’t run out to 2014 and Jumeirah are there until 2013.

“So you can’t just go clean.

“But Rory’s great and he does present a very clean unstained image for golf.  He’s a pretty good figurehead for the game right now with a load of  good young players coming behind him.

“What he said about Jason Day at the Masters, they were like two young kids playing together.

“It’s good for golf and we’re in a very good era right now and were in it, it’s all ours.”
